  For Carnival cruises, U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end in the same U.S. port) can use a state-issued birth certificate (with a raised seal) and a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license. However, a passport is highly recommended for convenience and security. For guests 16 and older, a government-issued photo ID is required.
