Itinerary

Day 1: Athens
Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm. If you arrive earlier, take some time to explore Athens’ iconic ancient sites, such as the Acropolis, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

In the evening, celebrate the start of your journey with a plant-based mezze feast at a rustic taverna. Enjoy a variety of small plates, including zucchini balls, vegan moussaka, salads, tomato balls, fresh beans, fava, and stuffed vegetables - all paired with local wine or ouzo. Greece’s culinary traditions date back more than 4,000 years, and tonight offers a delicious introduction.

Day 2: Athens to Aegina
Travel by metro to the port of Piraeus, then take a scenic ferry to Aegina (approx. 1 hour). Upon arrival, visit a local pistachio farm to learn about the island’s famous pistachios and sample fresh nuts and local sweets. Next, head to a family-run dairy farm for a tour, cheese tasting with tsipouro, and a hands-on lesson making traditional rizogalo (Greek rice pudding).

Depending on the weather, enjoy a swim and lunch before checking into your hotel. In the late afternoon, take an orientation walk around Aegina town. The evening is free for your own exploration.

Day 3: Aegina to Poros
Start the morning with free time in Aegina town - perhaps enjoy a coffee or pick up some pistachio pastries. Then take a ferry to Poros, a small island known for its lamb, olive groves, and whitewashed houses.

In the afternoon, join a cooking class with a local chef and learn to prepare classic regional dishes, followed by lunch made from your creations. The rest of the day is free to relax, swim at a nearby beach, or explore at your own pace.

Day 4: Hydra Day Trip
Take a day trip to Hydra, one of the most unique Greek islands. Hydra is famous for being completely free of cars and scooters - only donkeys, marble lanes, and the sea!

Your leader will take you to a traditional sweet shop to try Hydra’s famous almond macaroons with Greek coffee. The rest of the day is yours to relax, swim in the clear waters, or stroll along the marina before returning to Poros in the evening.

Day 5: Poros to Nafplio
Travel by ferry and private vehicle from Poros to Nafplio. Along the way, visit a family-run apiary to learn about honey production and sample their products with tea, bread, and cheese.

Next, explore the ancient UNESCO World Heritage site of Epidaurus, home to one of the best-preserved ancient Greek theatres. Finish the day with a tasting at a family-owned ouzo distillery. Arrive in Nafplio, a beautiful seaside town with rich Frankish, Venetian, and Turkish influences.

Day 6: Nafplio
Begin the day with a visit to Mycenae, where you’ll explore the Treasury of Atreus (also known as the Tomb of Agamemnon) with a local guide. Afterward, visit a boutique family winery for a tasting paired with local snacks and a walk through the vineyards. The afternoon is free to explore Nafplio at your own pace.

Day 7: Nafplio to Kardamyli
Travel toward Kardamyli, a beautiful village on the Mani Peninsula. Along the way, visit an olive oil mill to walk through the groves and learn about the olive oil production process. Enjoy a traditional farmer’s snack and olive oil tasting. Continue to Kalamata for a short walking tour and market visit with additional food tastings before arriving in Kardamyli in the early afternoon. The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy the stunning coastal views.

Day 8: Kardamyli
Enjoy a free morning - you can choose to go sea kayaking along the coast or simply relax. In the afternoon, visit a local home for a cooking class where you’ll learn to make traditional Mani dishes such as lalagia (Greek doughnuts) or travichti (hand-stretched fried pie).

End the day with a final home-cooked feast featuring tzatziki, local salads, and a sweet surprise.

Day 9: Kardamyli to Athens
Depart Kardamyli and stop to admire the views of the Corinth Canal on the way back to Athens. Your trip ends in Monastiraki Square in central Athens.

If you’d like to extend your stay, we can arrange post-trip accommodation at the Arion Hotel in Athens.

Good to Know Before You Book

🥗 Dietary Requirements

Greece is a wonderful destination for food lovers, especially vegetarians, thanks to its abundance of fresh produce, cheeses, legumes, and traditional vegetable-based dishes.

  • Vegetarian travelers will find plenty of delicious options throughout the trip.
  • Vegan travelers are welcome, but some included meals and cooking experiences may have limited alternatives. Please review the itinerary carefully to ensure it meets your needs.
  • While every effort will be made to accommodate dietary restrictions, some meals and food experiences are planned in advance and cannot always be modified.

Please let me know about any dietary requirements when you book so we can do our best to accommodate you.

☀️ Weather

September is generally warm and sunny in Greece, but temperatures can still reach 40°C (104°F) in some areas.

I recommend:

  • Bringing sunscreen and a hat
  • Wearing lightweight, breathable clothing
  • Staying well hydrated
  • Packing a light layer for cooler evenings

🏛️ Visiting Athens

Our journey begins and ends in Athens, but once the tour starts there is very little time for sightseeing in the city.

If you'd like to visit iconic sites such as the Acropolis, Temple of Olympian Zeus, or the National Archaeological Museum, I recommend arriving a day or two early or extending your stay after the tour. I'd be happy to help arrange additional hotel nights if you'd like to spend more time exploring Athens.

✈️ Departure Day

The tour concludes at approximately 1:00 PM on Day 9 in central Athens.

To allow plenty of time for transportation and airport check-in, we recommend booking flights that depart no earlier than 6:00 PM that evening.

🏨 Accommodation

We'll stay in comfortable hotels throughout the journey.

Occasionally, due to availability, accommodations may differ from those listed in the itinerary. If this happens, a property of similar quality and standard will be substituted.

As with many group tours, rooms may not always be ready immediately upon arrival. If necessary, we'll store our luggage so you can begin exploring while we wait for check-in.

🛏️ Single Occupancy

Prefer your own room?

A single supplement is available for travelers who would like private accommodations throughout the trip. Availability is limited, so please let me know if you're interested, and I'll be happy to provide pricing and details.

🪪 Passport, Travel Documents & Insurance

Passport

  • Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.
  • The name on your booking must exactly match the name on your passport.
  • Please send me your passport information once you have booked so I can finalize your reservation.
  • It's also a good idea to carry a photocopy (or digital copy) of your passport while traveling and leave another copy with someone at home.

Visas & Entry Requirements

It is each traveler's responsibility to ensure they meet all passport, visa, and entry requirements for Greece and any countries they may transit through.

I recommend checking the requirements as soon as you book, as some visas or travel documents may take time to obtain.

You can verify current entry requirements through your government's travel advisory website or the appropriate consulate.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is required for this trip. Credit cards often provide this as a service, or I can also provide you with a quote.

At a minimum, your policy must include:

  • Emergency medical coverage
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation

I also strongly recommend coverage for:

  • Trip cancellation or interruption
  • Lost or delayed baggage
  • Personal belongings
  • Personal liability

Before departure, you will need to provide proof of travel insurance, including:

  • Your insurance company name
  • Policy number
  • 24-hour emergency contact number

Using credit card travel insurance?
Please obtain the insurance policy details from your credit card provider (including the insurer's name, policy number, coverage details, and emergency contact number), as your credit card alone is not sufficient proof of coverage.
