  • The Journey

For more than 1,000 years, pilgrims have walked the Camino de Santiago in search of something like a spiritual awakening, an adventure, a challenge, reflection, connection, or simply the experience of seeing where the path might lead.

Fellow Travelers and Camino Más Allá bring that spirit to a thoughtfully curated journey combining the historic Camino Francés, the beauty of Northern Spain and Southwestern France, the celebration of San Fermín, and opportunities for meaningful personal exploration.

Our journey begins in Biarritz, on France’s Atlantic coast, before continuing to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, where we set out on foot. Over seven days, we’ll walk approximately 180 km (112 miles) across the Pyrenees and through Navarra into La Rioja, passing mountain landscapes, forests, medieval villages, historic Camino towns, rolling countryside, and vineyards.

Along the way, we’ll experience the simple rhythms that make the Camino so powerful: walking, conversation, shared meals, unexpected encounters, quiet moments, and the satisfaction of arriving somewhere new under our own power.

    Four Experiences, One Remarkable Journey

    • Camino de Santiago: Walk one of the most celebrated sections of the Camino Francés and experience a pilgrimage tradition that has drawn travelers for more than a thousand years.
    • French Basque Country & the Pyrenees: Begin on the Atlantic coast before crossing the Pyrenees from France into Spain, one of the Camino’s most memorable and rewarding stages.
    • San Fermín: Spend two nights in Pamplona during the legendary festival and immerse yourself in its music, traditions, cuisine, street celebrations, and unmistakable energy.
    • La Rioja: Walk through vineyards and rolling countryside before reaching Logroño, where we’ll celebrate the completion of our Camino in the heart of one of Spain’s great wine regions.

But the journey is about more than the miles we walk.

Through Camino Más Allá, author and Camino coach Michael Rucker will help us approach the Camino with intention. Before, during, and after the pilgrimage, he will create opportunities for reflection, meaningful conversation, and personal exploration, inviting each traveler to consider where they have been, where they are now, and what they want to carry forward.

The experience also embraces one of the Camino’s most compelling contrasts. The Camino invites us to slow down and look inward; San Fermín invites us to celebrate and embrace the moment.

Together, they create a journey of challenge and discovery, reflection and celebration, personal exploration and shared connection with experiences and perspectives that can remain with us long after we return home.

  • The Journey Within

    Your Camino Begins Before Spain

The San Fermín Camino is more than an 11-day journey.

Beginning in February 2027, Camino Más Allá brings our group together to prepare for the experience ahead—physically, personally, and as a community.

Through individual coaching, group connection, progressive Camino training, preparation resources, and ongoing support, travelers arrive in Spain ready for the challenge ahead.

Once on the Camino, the structure becomes lighter. Reflection, conversation, and connection happen naturally alongside the walking, cultural experiences, San Fermín celebrations, shared meals, friendships, and fun.

After returning home, an individual integration session creates space to reflect on the experience and consider what, if anything, you want to carry forward.

There is no prescribed outcome and no single reason for walking. We travel together, but everyone gets to walk his own Camino.

The Camino Más Allá Experience Includes

    • Group kickoff and orientation beginning February 2027
    • Three individual pre-Camino coaching sessions
    • Progressive Camino training, preparation, and packing guidance
    • Private group WhatsApp community
    • Michael and Orlando walking the Camino alongside you
    • Freedom to walk at your own pace
    • Opportunities for walking conversations, reflection, and connection
    • One individual post-Camino integration session

    The Five Stages

Camino Más Allá begins before we arrive in Europe and continues after we return home.

    1. Preparation — Clarify
Set intentions and prepare physically and mentally. Consider what you are bringing with you—not only in your backpack, but into the experience itself.

    2. Departure — Release
Step away from familiar routines, create space, and allow yourself to enter a different rhythm.

    3. Pilgrimage — Discover
Walk. Observe. Listen. Remain open to the landscape, the people around you, and whatever emerges along the way.

    4. Arrival — Reflect
Recognize what the journey has revealed, celebrate what you have accomplished, and consider what you may be ready to carry forward—or leave behind.

    5. Integration — Carry It Forward
Bring the Camino home, translating reflection into intention and intention into everyday life.

  • A Note About Camino Accommodations

The Camino invites us to experience travel a little differently, including where we stay.

While Fellow Travelers is committed to comfort, quality, and thoughtful hospitality, the Camino is not a luxury hotel journey. In many of the small villages along the route, accommodations are limited to intimate hotels, hostales, and traditional guesthouses that are modest by luxury travel standards. Rooms may be smaller, amenities simpler, and properties more traditional than you might typically choose for an upscale vacation.

That simplicity is part of the Camino experience.

We have selected accommodations with an emphasis on comfort, cleanliness, character, location, and private en-suite bathrooms, while choosing among the best options reasonably available along our route. Some stays will be charming and distinctive; others will be straightforward places to shower, rest tired legs, and enjoy a good night's sleep before walking the next morning again.

Travelers should also expect differences from North American luxury hotels. Room sizes, bedding, air conditioning, elevators, and other amenities can vary from property to property, particularly in historic buildings and smaller villages.

What remains elevated is the journey itself: thoughtful planning, luggage transfers, carefully selected experiences, personal Camino coaching, shared meals and celebrations, and the opportunity to experience the Camino with a small community of fellow gay travelers.

On the Camino, luxury takes on a different meaning: having your bag waiting when you arrive, a private room and hot shower after a long day's walk, a wonderful meal, good conversation, and the privilege of waking up the next morning to continue the journey.

Come prepared to embrace the simplicity. It is part of what makes the Camino unlike almost any other journey—and often part of what travelers remember most.

  • Preparing for the Camino

The Camino does not require participants to be elite athletes, but this itinerary is a meaningful physical undertaking.

Walking days range from approximately 21–28 km (13–17 miles) over varied terrain and elevation. The first walking stage includes the significant crossing of the Pyrenees from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port into Spain.

Participants should prepare in advance through a progressive walking and fitness program and become comfortable walking longer distances on consecutive days.

Daily luggage transfers allow participants to walk with only a daypack, while private ensuite accommodations provide a comfortable place to rest and recharge each evening.

A detailed Training Guide and Packing Guide will be provided before departure to help every traveler arrive prepared for the journey ahead. We will also cover training and packing in our coaching sessions.
