Why Travel to Sri Lanka with Angie?
I've traveled to more than 90 countries and have been leading women on group adventures for years. I created this trip because I wanted to experience Sri Lanka in a way that goes beyond checking off the major sights while making the logistics easy and creating the kind of connections that make a trip unforgettable. I take care of all of the details so you can show up and enjoy.
Your Journey Through Sri Lanka
Day 1 ยท March 4 โ Welcome to Sri Lanka
Your Sri Lankan adventure begins the moment you land. You'll be welcomed at Bandaranaike International Airport by your National Guide, who will be with us throughout the journey.
Settle into Colombo and take a little time to unwind after your flight. Tonight is intentionally easyโa chance to exhale, meet the women you'll be traveling with, and get your first taste of Sri Lanka.
Overnight: Courtyard by Marriott Colombo | Bed & Breakfast
Day 2 ยท March 5 โ Ancient Temples & Wild Landscapesย
Today we leave Colombo behind and head into the heart of Sri Lanka.
Along the way, we'll explore the extraordinary Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where ancient frescoes and enormous Buddha statues have been preserved for more than 2,000 years.
Later, we'll arrive at Kala Wewa, a vast ancient reservoir surrounded by beautiful countryside. We'll take to the water by kayak, soaking up the peaceful landscape and keeping an eye out for wildlife along the shore. Elephants are known to wander down to the water to cool off.
Tonight, settle into our beautiful retreat at Kandalama, surrounded by nature.
Overnight: Amba Yaalu, Kandalama | Half Board
Day 3 ยท March 6 โ The Lion Rock & A Moment of Stillness
Today brings one of Sri Lanka's great icons: Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
We'll make our way up the ancient citadel, climbing through history toward extraordinary views across the surrounding jungle and countryside. It's a climb, but the reward is one of those travel moments you'll remember long after you've returned home.
Afterward, we'll slow the pace with a very different kind of experienceโa visit to a rural monastery for an Alms Giving Ceremony with the monks.
Later, at the ancient Kaludiya Pokuna complex in Mihintale, a local monk will introduce us to meditation and the quiet traditions of Buddhist practice.
A day that moves from adventure to reflection.
Overnight: Amba Yaalu, Kandalama | Half Board
Day 4 ยท March 7 โ Into the Hills & The Flavors of Sri Lanka
Today we make our way toward Kandy, traveling through the lush landscapes of central Sri Lanka.
Along the way, we'll meet local artisans whose families have preserved traditional crafts such as lacquerware painting and natural thatching for generations.
We'll also visit a private spice garden in Matale, where cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and pepper grow among the tropical greenery. This is Sri Lanka at its most sensoryโfragrant, colorful and delicious.
By the time we reach Kandy, you'll have time to settle in before heading out with a local host to explore the city's historic heart.
Overnight: Thilanka Kandy | Half Board
Day 5 ยท March 8 โInto the Homes & Hearts of Kandy
This may be one of the most memorable days of our journey.
We'll spend time with Chandani, a talented batik artist and mother whose home is tucked into a working tea plantation. Her story, her artistry and the warmth of meeting her in her own environment make this a very personal glimpse into life in Sri Lanka.
Then we'll head into the hills to the home of Chami, where we'll experience Sri Lankan cooking the best way possible: by doing it ourselves.
We'll visit the local market, learn about the ingredients and traditions behind Sri Lankan cuisine, and then sit down together to enjoy the meal we've created.
Later, Master Ruwan will introduce us to the energy and artistry of traditional Kandyan dance and drumming. And yesโyou'll have the opportunity to join in.
This is the kind of day that makes a trip feel less like sightseeing and more like being welcomed into someone's world.
Overnight: Thilanka Kandy | Half Board
Day 6 ยท March 9 โ Tea Country & One of the World's Great Train Journeys
Today we trade the bustle of the city for the cool, misty mountains of Sri Lanka's tea country.
We'll travel through rolling green hills to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka's wonderfully eccentric "Little England," before visiting a working tea factory to discover how Ceylon tea makes its journey from leaf to cup.
And then comes one of the experiences you'll likely talk about long after the trip is over:
The train to Ella!!
We'll settle into the local train and watch Sri Lanka unfold outside the windowsโemerald tea plantations, waterfalls, misty mountains and tiny villages passing by as we make our way through the highlands.
There's something wonderfully unhurried about seeing the country this way.
Overnight: Pinnacle Ella | Bed & Breakfast
Day 7 ยท March 10 โ Elephants, Creativity & The Southern Coast
Today brings another side of Sri Lanka: its extraordinary commitment to wildlife conservation.
We'll visit the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe, a rehabilitation center dedicated to caring for orphaned elephant calves and ultimately returning them to the wild. Watching the elephants being cared for here is a meaningful experienceโand very different from a traditional wildlife attraction.
We'll continue south with a stop at the Craft Tunnel, where we'll get our hands dirty during a pottery experience with Master Potter Ajith Perera.
And then the landscape changes again.
The mountains give way to the Indian Ocean.
We'll arrive at Mosvold Villa, where the rest of the journey begins to slow down.
Overnight: Mosvold Villa, Ahangama | Bed & Breakfast
Days 8 & 9 ยท March 11โ12 โ Two Days to Simply Be
After a week filled with discovery, these two days are deliberately different.
Wake slowly. Have a long breakfast. Swim. Read by the water. Walk along the beach. Enjoy a leisurely lunch. Spend time with the women you've met along the way.
We'll also venture out to discover two wonderful pieces of southern Sri Lankan culture.
At a Cinnamon Plantation, we'll learn about the spice that has shaped Sri Lanka's history and remains one of the country's most important exports.
We'll also meet the famous Stilt Fishermen of the Southern Coast, whose traditional fishing technique has become one of Sri Lanka's most recognizable images.
But mostly, these days are about exhaling.
After the temples, mountains, wildlife and adventure, you'll have time to simply enjoy being here.
Overnight: Mosvold Villa, Ahangama | Bed & Breakfast
Day 10 ยท March 13 โ Until We Meet Againย
Our Sri Lankan adventure comes to an end today.
You'll leave with photographs, new friendships, a suitcase full of memoriesโand hopefully the feeling that you didn't simply visit Sri Lanka.
You experienced it.
