Basel to Amsterdam on the AmaStella

Join Danielle, Teresa, and your fellow Burlington Wine Club members on a special 7-night AmaWaterways river cruise through the Rhine, sailing October 22 to October 29, 2028

Sail the Rhine through four of Europe’s most celebrated wine regions, where castle-studded gorges and charming towns provide the perfect backdrop to savor Alsace’s fragrant whites, Rüdesheim’s finest Rieslings, and expertly paired culinary delights on board.

Enchanting Rhine - Celebration of Wine Cruise Itinerary Overview & Highlights

Basel to Amsterdam - 7 Nights

Discover the Rhine through its wines, regional flavours, historic towns, and vineyard landscapes. This journey combines Alsatian wine tastings, Rheingau Rieslings, a paired wine dinner, and local culinary experiences with scenic cruising and cultural exploration.

Day 1: Basel, Switzerland | Embarkation

Board your ship in Basel and settle into life on the Rhine. Meet your fellow travellers over a festive welcome dinner as your wine-country journey begins.

Day 2: Breisach, Germany | Riquewihr & Alsatian Wines

Choose an excursion to the picturesque village of Riquewihr, followed by a wine tasting at a local winery and free time to explore its charming streets and shops. Alternatively, enjoy a guided bike tour through the Breisach wine country.

In the evening, enjoy a special paired wine dinner, a highlight of the itinerary’s food and wine focus.

Day 3: Strasbourg, France | The Flavours of Alsace

Choose “The Gem of Alsace” tour and an Alsatian wine tasting, combining the region’s colourful architecture and heritage with its winemaking traditions.

Other options include a leisurely city tour around Strasbourg’s cathedral neighbourhood or a guided bike ride through its parks and historic districts.

Day 4: Ludwigshafen & Rüdesheim, Germany | History & a Local Specialty

Explore Heidelberg’s castle, including its impressive 18th-century wine cask, followed by a walk through the Old Town. Alternatively, discover historic Speyer or hike Heidelberg’s Philosopher’s Path.

In Rüdesheim, choose a visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet or savour traditional Rüdesheimer coffee, made with Asbach brandy and topped with whipped cream and chocolate flakes, in a local café.

Day 5: Rüdesheim, Rhine Gorge & Lahnstein, Germany | Riesling & Vineyard Views

Take a gondola ride above the vineyards, followed by a tasting of the region’s celebrated wines led by a local vintner. Alternatively, enjoy an invigorating hike through Rüdesheim’s terraced vineyards.

The day also features the castle-lined scenery of the Rhine Gorge and a visit to medieval Lahneck Castle in Lahnstein.

Day 6: Monheim, Cologne & Düsseldorf, Germany | Local Beer Traditions

Explore Cologne’s historic streets and Gothic cathedral, with an opportunity to enjoy locally brewed Kölsch beer, before continuing to Düsseldorf for free time.

In Düsseldorf, choose a walking tour and tasting of the city’s traditional Altbier, or explore its harbour, Old Town, and famous Königsallee on a guided bike tour.

Day 7: Utrecht & Amsterdam, Netherlands | Dutch Flavours & Canals

The day’s overview includes time in Utrecht for a walk or beer tasting, followed by scenic cruising toward Amsterdam.

In Amsterdam, choose “A Taste of Holland,” combining a guided walk through historic canal-lined neighbourhoods with a tasting of traditional Dutch flavours at a local café. Alternatively, enjoy a guided canal cruise past gabled houses, historic bridges, and houseboats.

Day 8: Amsterdam, Netherlands | Disembarkation

Disembark in Amsterdam and begin your journey home, taking with you new wine discoveries, regional flavours, and memories shared along the Rhine.

Excursions listed as alternatives are choices rather than activities all guests will undertake. Itinerary details may change; final travel documents will confirm the schedule.

  • Why Travel with the Burlington Wine Club a River Cruise

Travelling with the Burlington Wine Club offers the best of both worlds: the opportunity to connect with like-minded people who share an appreciation for food, wine, culture, and meaningful travel, while still enjoying the freedom to shape each day in a way that suits you.

A river cruise is especially well-suited to group travel because it offers a relaxed, flexible experience. Each day, guests can choose from a variety of included excursions based on their own interests and activity level, whether that means a wine tasting, a cultural walking tour, a culinary experience, or time to explore at a gentler pace.

There will be opportunities to gather, share stories, and discuss the day’s discoveries with fellow Wine Club members, while still having space to enjoy the journey independently. It is social, but not overly structured, a comfortable way to travel together while still making the experience your own.

  • Travel Insurance & Added Flexibility

Travel insurance is strongly recommended to help protect your travel investment. Unexpected situations can happen before or during a trip, including illness, injury, trip interruption, flight delays, lost or delayed baggage, or the need to cancel for an insured reason.

Travel with Grace offers Manulife Travel Insurance and can provide a personalized quote based on the type of coverage you need, such as emergency medical, trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage protection, or a more comprehensive package.

AmaWaterways also offers Travel Waiver Plus 31 at C$299 per person. This is not travel insurance, but it can provide added flexibility. It allows you to cancel your AmaWaterways vacation for any reason up to 31 days prior to the start of your AmaWaterways purchased services. If you cancel under this waiver, you will receive a future cruise credit valid for 24 months from the date the cancellation is received.

Travel Waiver Plus 31 must be purchased at the time of initial payment and only applies to penalties charged by AmaWaterways. It does not cover non-refundable items such as airfare, custom arrangements, medical expenses, or post-departure benefits. For this reason, additional travel insurance is highly recommended.
