Canadian Rockies by Road & Rail

Two days aboard a glass-domed train through some of the most dramatic scenery in North America, then a guided road journey between the mountain towns of Lake Louise and Banff — turquoise lakes, glaciers, and alpine views, with nothing to drive or plan yourself.
I'm putting together a small group to travel with me through the Canadian Rockies in September 2027: two nights in Vancouver, two days riding the Rocky Mountaineer in glass-dome rail cars to Lake Louise, then on to Banff for a mountain gondola and a lake cruise before the trip wraps up in Calgary.

Full Itinerary
The Journey
Vancouver (2 nights) — An easy, familiar start: a hop-on/hop-off city tour taking in Stanley Park, Gastown, Granville Island, and the Vancouver Lookout.
Aboard the Rocky Mountaineer (2 days) — Vancouver to Kamloops to Lake Louise in glass-domed rail cars, through the Fraser Valley, river canyons, and the Coast and Cascade Mountains. Gourmet meals, full narration, and nothing to watch but the view. The train doesn't run at night, so nobody misses a mile of scenery to darkness.
Lake Louise (2 nights) — A full day includes a sightseeing gondola ride for mountain and glacier views, with Moraine Lake just minutes away.
Banff (2 nights) — A guided road journey through more mountains, lakes, and waterfalls, then a day in Banff itself: the Sulphur Mountain gondola and a Lake Minnewanka cruise.
The trip wraps up with a transfer to Calgary for flights home.
