Augsburg CGEE: Social Systems, Sustainability, and Justice in Norway
Sep 2 - Dec 12, 2026
This program explores the Norwegian and Nordic models of addressing contemporary social issues. These issues encompass a wide range, including the climate crisis and the emerging importance of environmental sustainability. Additionally, the program explores topics such as national identity, gender equality, immigration, happiness, housing, labor rights, renewable energy, and economic inequality.
Throughout the program, students will have the invaluable opportunity to engage with Norwegian and international college students that attend Norway’s Østfold University College. Augsburg CGEE students and ØUC students will dive into the intricacies of these issues, comparing and contrasting the Nordic approaches with those of the United States during projects and elective courses. Throughout the semester, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the diverse approaches taken by different nations in addressing these shared challenges of the twenty-first century.

Important Topics

Before embarking on any international adventure, it's crucial to understand and fulfill the necessary entry requirements for your chosen destinations. Travelers are solely responsible for reviewing specific entry requirements and visa regulations. For U.S. citizens, comprehensive information can be found on the U.S. Department of State's website. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please consult your local consulate or embassy to ascertain any entry requirements for your nationality.
A valid passport is required for this trip. We strongly recommend that your passport has at least six months of remaining validity beyond your planned return date, as many countries enforce this rule and may deny entry otherwise. In the event of an emergency abroad, having a valid passport will also significantly simplify and expedite your return to the United States.
When entering your information for ticketing, please ensure your legal name, gender, and date of birth exactly match what appears on your passport. We know many travelers go by a different name day-to-day—our system has a spot for your preferred name, and we're happy to use that in all our communications with you. However, airlines and immigration authorities require that your ticket information precisely matches your travel documents.
Even small discrepancies—a missing middle name, a nickname instead of your legal first name, or an incorrect gender marker—can result in being denied boarding at the gate or complications with immigration when entering your destination or returning to the United States. We will not be responsible for denial of boarding or entry due to incorrect traveler documentation or insufficient travel documents.
Next Steps

We're so excited to help with the flight for your upcoming study abroad experience! Here's a breakdown of the next steps to get everything booked and ensure everyone is prepared:
- Review the Group Home Page: Your first step is to check out this page. Make sure this is the program you are intending to register for.
- Complete Intake Form: This will give us the details we need to complete things when it comes to ticketing. Ensure you get a "success" message when you complete the intake form. No success message means it didn't go through.
- Custom Proposal: Our goal is to be in touch within one business day with your custom flight option that fits the program for you. During busy times, it may take up to two days to get the proposal together for you.
- Prepare for the Trip: Continue on with your normal daily life and prepare for your study abroad program.
- Communication & Details: As the date approaches, you will get most of the communication from Augsburg. However, you may occasionally see things from us, so keep an eye out for an email from Northstar Travel Company with any important information.
We're here to help every step of the way! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have.
