Cruise the Douro River in Portugal with us - Oct. 31 - Nov. 7, 2027 - NO SINGLE SUPPLEMENT

Oct 31 - Nov 7, 2027

Normally, traveling solo on a cruise comes with a penalty: the dreaded single supplement. It's the extra fee cruise lines charge simply because you have your own cabin. I hate it.

Not on this trip.

Every Golden Girl gets her own beautiful stateroom for the exact same price as someone sharing a cabin. No single supplement. No catch. No fine print. Just your own private space to unpack, relax, and enjoy.

And what a place to enjoy it.

For seven unforgettable nights, we'll sail the breathtaking Douro River aboard a luxurious five-star ship, winding through Portugal's spectacular wine country. Picture steep terraced vineyards climbing the hillsides, charming riverside villages, centuries-old wine estates, and scenery that seems to change around every bend.

Along the way we'll explore the medieval walled village of Castelo Rodrigo, spend time in the heart of the Douro Valley at picturesque Pinhão, and cross into Spain for a full day in magnificent Salamanca—home to soaring cathedrals, Spain's oldest university, elegant plazas, and a lively tapas lunch accompanied by an authentic flamenco performance. We'll stroll through the beautiful gardens of Mateus Palace, enjoy dinner at an 18th-century wine estate, and finish our journey back in Porto with a guided tour of this colorful riverside city and a tasting in its famous port wine cellars.

Everything is designed to let you simply relax and enjoy the experience. Your cruise includes full board, an all-inclusive drinks package, thoughtfully planned excursions, and, of course, I'll be there hosting every step of the way.

If you've been curious about river cruising—or if you're already a fan—I think this may be one of the most beautiful itineraries we've ever offered.

A date I'd like you to pay attention to:

August 18, 2026 - I have 14 staterooms reserved for our group at the below prices. On August 18, 2026, whatever's left gets released back to the open market — after that date, I can't guarantee the price of the staterooms will remain the same or that there will be space for you on this ship. As of August 10th, 1/2 of those staterooms have been taken. That said, I will always try my best to get whomever wants to join a stateroom.

Stay tuned for information about our pre-cruise extension to Porto, Portugal and post-cruise trip to Galicia, Spain.

  • Our Home Away From Home - MS Douro Splendour

    MS Douro Splendour

MS Douro Splendour is a cosy, quintessentially Portuguese ship sailing on the Douro – designed to echo the character of the traditional boutique hotels found along the river.

Interiors are rich and welcoming, with warm woods and deep tones that set the mood for relaxed days on the water.

With just 121 guests on board (which equals to 60 guests on board during solo cruisings), the atmosphere is naturally more intimate – familiar faces, easy conversation and a relaxed pace from day one. Life on the ship centres around the restaurant and bar, creating a sociable, easy-going feel where it’s never hard to find company, whether you’re enjoying a leisurely meal or settling in for a drink as the day winds down.

Outside, the vast sun deck made for slow afternoons in the fresh air, with a large, covered area for shade and a pool to cool off as the Douro valley drifts by.

    Facilities

    • Air-conditioning
    • Lounge & bar
    • Spa and wellness areas
    • Reception area open 24hrs
    • Stunning restaurant
    • Tea and coffee making facilities
    • Laundry service (additional fee)
    • Boutique gift shop
    • Splash pool
    • Lift between Upper, Middle & Lower Decks

    Dining on board

Begin the day at your own pace, choosing a generous breakfast or something lighter to ease you into the morning. Lunch is relaxed and unfussy, with simple, well-judged dishes to enjoy between time ashore and lazy afternoons on deck. In the evening, the restaurant becomes the heart of the ship, serving a four-course à la carte dinner that blends familiar favourites with flavours inspired by the Douro and the regions you’re travelling through – best enjoyed slowly, in good company.

    The Sun Deck

The Sun Deck is where MS Douro Splendour really comes into its own. It’s designed for time spent outdoors, with plenty of space to settle into a lounger, find a shaded spot and watch the Douro Valley drift by at a leisurely pace.

On a warm day, the pool is a welcome way to cool off between ports – and if you fancy a quiet moment, the forward area is a lovely place to take in river life as it unfolds along the banks. You can also catch glimpses of the Captain and crew at work as the ship follows the Douro’s gentle curves.

Please note: The Sun Deck is only accessible by stairs.

    • Testimonials from women who have taken river cruises with the Golden Girls

"I had no idea what to expect from a river cruise as I had never taken one before. Linda told us everything we needed to know before we ever left the US. The boat was absolutely beautiful and had only 76 passengers. The staff got to know us and truly catered to us. The excursions were great, my room was gorgeous, and i have never laughed so hard in my life! I had the best time ever and can't wait to do another cruise with Linda and my new 'travel tribe'".

      ....Ann, GA

"From the moment I booked until the day we returned home, I felt completely taken care of. Every hotel, meal, and excursion had been thoughtfully planned. It was wonderful to simply relax and enjoy the experience without worrying about any of the details."

      ....Michelle, FL

"There were 14 of us on the pre-cruise extension so by the time we boarded the river cruise I already had 13 new friends. Then another 3 Golden Girls joined us on the boat and I now have 16 new women who I feel totally comfortable traveling with. Thank you Linda!"

      .....Pat, CA

"Linda has a remarkable ability to make every traveler feel valued and looked after. She thoughtfully balances guided experiences with free time, creating a trip that feels both enriching and relaxing. I felt safe, comfortable, and exceptionally well cared for from beginning to end."

      ....Wendy, PA

    • Why This Is Perfect for the Golden Girls Community

I know how this usually goes. You want to travel, but you don't want to pay extra just because you're not bringing a plus-one, and you don't want to sit alone at dinner surrounded by couples who've been together forty years. This trip solves both problems at once — you get your own room, and you get a boat full of women who are exactly like you: independent, curious, and done waiting for someone else to be free before they book a trip.

The pace of this one suits us too. It's not a forced march through checklist sightseeing — most days you have a choice between an active option and a gentler one, whether that's the walking tour of Porto or the coach tour, Salamanca's flamenco lunch or a quieter afternoon at the Douro Museum. Nobody's rushing anybody. And there's a lot of just sitting on the sun deck with a glass of vinho verde watching terraced vineyards go by, which, frankly, is its own kind of itinerary.

I only have 14 staterooms held for our group, so this isn't a big anonymous ship — it's our people, on our trip, at our pace.

    • Are You Ready to Sign Up?

Here's what you need to know:

Sign up by July 30, 2026 — save $250 off the price of your trip. Sign up between July 31 and August 10, 2026 — save $150 off the price of your trip.

I have 14 staterooms reserved for our group. On August 18, 2026, whatever's left gets released back to the open market — after that date, I can't guarantee there will be space for you on this ship.

If the Douro has been on your list, or if you've just been waiting for a trip where you don't have to pay extra to travel solo, this is the one. Send me a message or grab your spot below — I'd love to have you on this one with me.
