Canadian Rockies by Road & Rail

Sep 5 - 12, 2027

Some trips ask you to see a lot. This one asks you to look up. Picture a seat beneath a glass dome, a warm cup of coffee in your hand, the Fraser River canyon sliding past and the Coast Mountains giving way to the high peaks of the Canadian Rockies. No driving, no hurrying, no watching the clock, just two unhurried days of some of the most beautiful scenery in North America, and a lake the color of nothing else you have ever seen waiting at the end of it.

Canadian Rockies by Road & Rail is an eight-day journey, September 5 through 12, 2027, that pairs the legendary Rocky Mountaineer with the comfort of traveling by road between the mountain towns of Lake Louise and Banff. It begins in Vancouver, rolls east by rail through Kamloops, and settles into the heart of the Rockies for gondola rides, a lake cruise, waterfalls, and long mountain evenings. Come travel with me.

Final pricing and details are still coming together, which is exactly why I would love to hear from you now. Join the list and you will be the first to see everything, with a personal note from me before anything is announced publicly.

  • Why Road and Rail

There are two ways to fall in love with the Canadian Rockies, and the best answer is both. The train gives you the slow, sweeping, big-picture view, the kind you can only get from a window that wraps up and over your head while the landscape unspools for hours. The road gives you the close-up: pulling over beside a waterfall, stepping out at a lake, wandering a mountain town with time to spare. Together they turn a vacation into a story with a beginning, a middle, and an ending worth remembering.

  • The Journey

We begin with two nights in Vancouver, an easy and welcoming start. A city tour takes in Stanley Park, historic Gastown, Granville Island, and the view from the Vancouver Lookout, so you can arrive, exhale, and settle in before the real adventure begins.

Then comes the part everyone talks about. Aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, we travel from Vancouver to Kamloops through the Fraser Valley, river canyons, and the Coast and Cascade Mountains. Meals are served on board while the scenery rolls by, and the commentary brings the places outside your window to life. The train rests overnight in Kamloops, so no one misses a mile of the view to darkness.

On the second day the train carries us on to Lake Louise, climbing into the Canadian Rockies. Two nights here means time to breathe it in, including a sightseeing gondola ride for sweeping mountain and glacier views, with Moraine Lake just minutes away.

From Lake Louise we travel by road through more mountains, lakes, and waterfalls to Banff, where two nights in this charming alpine town include a ride up the Sulphur Mountain gondola for 360-degree views and a cruise on Lake Minnewanka. The trip wraps up with a transfer to Calgary for flights home.

  • A Few Moments to Look Forward To

The first time the dome car rounds a bend and the whole canyon opens up around you. Stepping out at Lake Louise for the first time and understanding why people travel across the world for it. A gondola lifting you above the treetops until the valley lies spread out like a map. A quiet cruise across Lake Minnewanka as the afternoon light settles on the water. And the simple pleasure of sharing all of it with people who are as happy to be there as you are.
