A few things that'll make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.
Resort Check-In
Check-in is typically around 3 PM. If you arrive early, the resort will store your bags so you can head straight to the beach.
Cash & Tipping
US dollars are widely accepted at the resort and most tourist areas. Dominican pesos are useful for local vendors and tipping. A few dollars per day for housekeeping and bartenders/servers goes a long way. ATMs are available on-site.
Sun Protection
The Caribbean sun is intense, especially in February. Apply sunscreen early and often — reef-safe if you're swimming in natural cenotes or the ocean.
Water
Drink bottled water only. The resort provides it; skip the tap.
Language
Spanish is the official language, but English is widely spoken by resort staff. A few basic Spanish phrases are always appreciated.
Safety
Stay within resort grounds or on organized excursions. Avoid unsanctioned beach vendors — a polite "no, gracias" does the trick.
Getting Around Off-Resort
Uber is not widely available. Traditional taxis are available outside the resort — always agree on a fare before getting in. For excursions, prearranged transportation through the resort tour desk is the easiest and safest option.
Specialty Dining Reservations
Lopesan has multiple à la carte restaurants that require reservations. Head to the front desk or concierge as soon as you check in to secure your preferred dining times — especially important for a group.
Staying Connected
Check with your phone carrier about international plans before you leave. Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort.
