Arrival to Cusco, at an elevation of 11,440 feet. To help manage and acclimate to the high altitude, we transfer down to the Sacred Valley at 8,200 feet of altitude. The Urubamba Valley is a laid-back valley with a very pleasant climate perfectly suited for farming. Ancient ruins, gentle mountain slopes, and scattered farming towns define the valley. On route, you will visit Sulca Textile Museum and Pisac Market.
The museum recreates fabrics and pieces from ancient Peru using ancestral techniques from the different Pre-Columbian Inca, Viceroyalty and Contemporary cultures. This is a place where the traditions of the North, South and Center of Peru come together.
The Sulca family who are current heirs to the knowledge of pre-Columbian textile art, a legacy of the great Wari cultural empire, currently oversee, re-value, preserve, elaborate, innovate, and disseminate the fabric made with the specialized knowledge and textile techniques that influenced ancient Peru; this is their family legacy!
You will have the opportunity to feed many camelids such as Llamas, Alpacas and Guanacos loose and free on its property and to observe an exhibition of the process of dyeing the fibers of the Camelids.
Located in the heart of the Sacred Valley, Pisac Market is one of Peru’s most vibrant and iconic artisan markets. Held in the charming town of Pisac, this open-air market is a true feast for the senses, offering an authentic glimpse into the rich Andean culture and traditions.
As you wander through its lively alleys, you will discover a stunning array of handcrafted treasures, from colorful textiles and alpaca wool garments to intricately designed ceramics, silver jewelry, and hand-carved wooden masks. The market is not only a shopper’s paradise but also a cultural encounter, where local artisans proudly share the stories and techniques behind their creations.
