Begin with a city orientation tour before travelling through the scenic Torrens Gorge to the Barossa Valley. There may be a stop at a local bakery to sample fine German pastries.
Cross over Jacob's Creek for your first wine tasting at Peter Lehmann winery. Continue to Torbreck wine cellars, a small winery with rustic charm, making wines using traditional Barossa methods.
Stop for a stroll in the German town of Tanunda, with time to explore the small shops, then drive up to Menglers Hill for an unsurpassed view over the entire valley.
Continue into historic Angaston, one of the more English-feeling villages in the Barossa. Lunch is alfresco under the vines or at Vintners restaurant near Angaston.
In the afternoon, visit another leading winery such as Henschkes in Keyneton, a fifth-generation German winery, or the historic Yalumba, the largest family-run winery in Australia. If time permits, you may also visit boutique producers such as Charles Melton or Turkey Flat.
