As a special needs mom and advocate, I'm thrilled to share that Detroit Metro Airport has opened a multi-sensory room! Located across from Gate A36 in the McNamara Terminal, this space is designed to offer a calming and safe environment for individuals with sensory sensitivities and cognitive disabilities. This means so much to me, as I dedicate my work to helping families with special needs and sensory issues travel comfortably. This addition will make a significant difference in reducing travel stress and creating a more inclusive experience for everyone. I look forward to seeing more airports embrace such thoughtful amenities! (Sheila Smith)

Inclusion in Early Child Care
Inclusion in early childhood care is crucial because every child, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis or not, deserves an environment where they feel valued, understood, and supported. Early childhood is a formative time for building social, emotional, and cognitive skills, and creating an inclusive setting ensures that all children, including those who may face challenges but haven't been formally identified, have the opportunity to thrive. By fostering a culture of inclusion, caregivers can address subtle differences in development, provide tailored support, and create opportunities for children to learn from one another. When we recognize and meet the needs of each child, we not only support their growth but also nurture empathy, acceptance, and respect among all children. Early intervention, even for those without a diagnosis, can make a world of difference in building a strong foundation for lifelong success.
