Hotel Check-In & Check-Out: What to Expect
- Standard check-in times: Most hotels worldwide check guests in between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM local time.
- Standard check-out times: Typically between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon) local time.
- Early arrival? Rooms may not be ready if you arrive before check-in time. Luggage storage is almost always available at the front desk.
- Late arrival? Most hotels hold reservations until a set time (often 6:00 PM) unless guaranteed with a credit card or noted as late arrival. If you are delayed, contact the hotel with your expected arrival time.
- ID required: A valid passport (international) or government-issued ID is required at check-in, along with the credit card used for booking.
- Deposits/holds: Many hotels place an incidental hold on your card at check-in (typically $50–$200/night) that's released a few days after check-out. Do not use a debit card.
- Early check-in / late check-out: Often available for a fee or based on availability. It never hurts to ask, and loyalty status or elite tiers can help.
