The entrance to King Tutankhamun's tomb (KV62) was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922 after being hidden for centuries beneath debris. The entrance, a descending staircase, was found near the entrance of another tomb (Ramesses VI's tomb, KV9) in the Valley of the Kings. It was partially buried by limestone chippings from the construction of Ramesses VI's tomb and later covered by worker's huts.
