Passports & Identification
You’ll need a valid passport for entry into both Ireland and Northern Ireland.
You need to apply for an ETA before travelling to the UK.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
Canadians do not need a visa for tourism stays under 90 days in either country.
Keep a digital photo or photocopy of your passport (stored separately) in case of loss or theft.
Arrival in Ireland
The journey begins in Dublin, part of the Republic of Ireland.
You’ll go through Irish customs and immigration upon arrival (unless you visit another country first).
Power & Adapters
Ireland and Northern Ireland both use the Type G plug (three rectangular prongs, same as the U.K.).
Voltage is 230V, so you’ll need a universal travel adapter (and a converter if your device isn’t dual voltage).
Many modern hotels have USB ports, but not all — pack an extra adapter or power bank.
Phones & Connectivity
Check with your cell provider about international roaming; most offer travel passes or daily roam plans.
Alternatively, pick up a local eSIM or SIM card in Dublin for data use.
Free Wi‑Fi is common in hotels, cafés, and most tourist areas.
Weather, Packing & Clothing Tips
Spring in Ireland and Northern Ireland is described as beautiful — lush green landscapes, blooming flowers, and mild (but unpredictable) weather.
During your trip, you can expect:
Daytime highs: around 13–17°C (55–63°F)
Evenings: around 6–9°C (42–48°F)
Rain: Light showers are common; heavy rain is rare this time of year.
Daylight: Long days — the sun rises early and sets close to 9:00 PM.
What to pack:
Light layers: long-sleeve shirts, lightweight sweaters, packable jacket
Waterproof jacket or shell
Comfortable walking shoes
Smart casual outfit for evenings or group dinners
Travel umbrella (compact and wind-resistant)
Daypack for water, snacks, and camera
Plug adapter: Type G for both Dublin and Belfast
Helpful extras:
Reusable water bottle (tap water is safe and excellent quality)
Small first-aid or comfort kit (Band-Aids, motion sickness tablets, lip balm, etc.)
Local tip: Ireland’s weather changes quickly. Similar to Saskatchewan you can experience “four seasons in a day.” Pack for variety and dress in layers.
Government of Canada Travel Advice – Ireland & UK
Ireland is a member of the European Union, but not part of the Schengen area. You must have a valid passport to travel between Ireland and other European countries.
You will also be travelling to the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, so you must meet entry/exit requirements for the UK.
Tourist visa: not required for stays up to 90 days in Ireland and up to 6 months in the UK.
Routine vaccines should be up-to-date before you travel.
Health care is excellent; service is available throughout both countries. Upfront payment may be required.
In the UK, you must pay for medical services provided by the NHS unless you are ordinarily resident or using exempt emergency services.
Make sure you have travel insurance that includes coverage for medical evacuation and hospital stays.
Travel Insurance (Compulsory)
Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate in the trip. You will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been provided.
At a minimum you must be covered for medical expenses including emergency evacuation and repatriation. A minimum coverage of USD 200,000 is required.
If you have credit card insurance you will be required to provide proof of purchase of the trip (receipt or credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, coverage level, and emergency contact number.
Additional Insurance – Strongly Recommended
Trip cancellation and interruption insurance is strongly recommended, even if you already have medical or credit card coverage, due to limitations and potential out-of-pocket expenses.
Examples where this coverage can help:
A family emergency forces you to cancel or come home early.
A flight delay or cancellation results in extra hotel nights.
Your luggage is delayed and you need to buy essentials.
You get sick or injured while away and need to rebook your return.
If you would like to purchase travel insurance or get a quote, you can do so through Allianz Insurance. If you prefer to call in, please give them agent #TPI4225 so it is linked to your booking.
For all insurance coverage, be sure you:
Have all important insurance contact information on hand.
Provide your advisor with a copy of your insurance coverage so it can be added to your itinerary.
Cancellation Policy (G Adventures)
Cancellation 60 days or more prior to departure: Deposit paid will become a Lifetime Deposit (LTD) to use on a future G Adventures trip.
Cancellation between 30 and 59 days prior to departure: LTD + 50% loss of final payment.
Cancellation within 30 days of departure: LTD + 100% loss of final payment.
International Flights & Pre-Accommodation
International flights are not included. It is recommended to arrive a day or two early to fully explore Dublin; there are no planned activities until the evening welcome meeting.
It is strongly suggested you arrive at least a day prior to the tour. Your advisor can assist with flight options and additional hotel arrangements.
Pre-accommodation in Dublin (per room per night):
