Philipsburg sits on a narrow strip of land between Great Bay and the Salt Pond, stretching about a mile long. The town is laid out in five parallel streets.
Along the bay is a half-mile boardwalk lined with restaurants and cafés, plus several Wi-Fi hot spots.
At the center of town is Wathey Square (pronounced watty). Across from it stands the white courthouse and town hall, built in 1793. Over the years it has been a commander’s home, fire station, jail, and post office.
Just off the square is Captain Hodge Pier, a great spot to look out over Great Bay and the long beach that borders the town.
