This program provides an opportunity for students to study the intersections of race, gender, and class in the French context. Students will explore the similarities and differences in how race, class and gender oppression are enacted and experienced in both the United States and France. Particular attention will be given to French assimilationism and secularism paradigms and how these shape approaches to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice. Students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from French social workers, community organizers, educators, and young people while exploring the culturally diverse cities of Paris and Bordeaux.
