Located at the absolute northernmost tip of Denmark's Jutland peninsula, Skagen is a historic fishing port turned vibrant resort destination. It is highly celebrated for its landscape, art history, and natural phenomena:
- Grenen (The Meeting of Two Seas): This is the exact sandy spit where the North Sea (Skagerrak) and the Baltic Sea (Kattegat) collide. Visitors can stand with one foot in each sea.
- The Distinctive Architecture: The town is famous for its iconic, low-slung, "Skagen yellow" houses featuring distinct red-tiled roofs lined with white mortar.
- The Skagen Painters & "The Light": In the late 19th century, a colony of famous Scandinavian artists (including P.S. Krøyer and Anna Ancher) gathered here, drawn by the unique, endless coastal light. Their masterpieces are preserved in the Skagens Museum.
- Den Tilsandede Kirke (The Sand-Covered Church): A 14th-century church that was slowly buried by migrating sand dunes over centuries. Today, only the white church tower remains visible rising out of the sand.
