For Cruises That Begin and End in the United States and Do Not Visit Foreign Ports
If you're sailing on a domestic-only cruise, here’s what you’ll need to board:
✅ U.S. Citizens (Age 16 and Over):
You must bring:
- Government-issued photo ID (such as a valid driver’s license with REAL ID or state ID)AND
- Proof of U.S. citizenship, such as:
- An original or certified U.S. birth certificate
- A Consular Report of Birth Abroad
- A Certificate of Naturalization
💡 Tip: Even though a passport is not required for U.S.-only cruises, it’s always smart to bring one just in case of emergency.
🧒 U.S. Citizens Under Age 16:
- Only need an original or certified U.S. birth certificate (no photo ID required).
✈️ REAL ID Reminder (for air travel to your cruise port):
Beginning May 7, 2025, a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license (or another acceptable ID, such as a passport) will be required to board domestic flights.Check your ID for a star in the top corner—if it’s missing, bring a valid passport instead.
🧭 Bonus Travel Tip:
Even for U.S.-only cruises, it’s always safest to travel with a valid U.S. passport. If plans change or emergencies happen, having a passport gives you more flexibility.
