For travelers looking to streamline the process, I highly recommend using the Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app. It’s a free, U.S. Customs and Border Protection-approved app that allows you to submit your passport and customs declaration before reaching the immigration line, helping you get through the airport faster.
As soon as you touch down back in the US and turn your phone on, you can go into this app and let them know you are back. It will require a picture to be taken and you to acknowledge you aren't bringing back anything you are not supposed to. Then when you get to the immigration area you can bypass the main line and go to the MPC line to get through quicker!
