Documents: Always Carry Indentification
Jaywalking: Crossing against a red light is strictly prohibited and carries on-the-spot fines, even if no traffic is present.
Noise & Sundays: Sunday is a strict day of rest. Avoid noisy activities or being loud in general. They take this so seriously that it is forbidden to use a washing machine or a lawnmower so that the neighborhood is not disturbed. Many who work as concierge at hotels or hostels have become frustrated when foreign travelers ask to wash their clothes on a Sunday – so keep this in mind
Public Transport: Always buy a ticket before boarding; inspectors issue heavy, on-the-spot fines.
Noise Levels In General: Maintain low volume in public areas and on public transport ("quiet carriages" are strictly enforced).
There is mutual respect for neighbors in Switzerland. This can be taken to extreme lengths, for example, many towns have special party houses in woodlands where people can host events to avoid making noise where they live, potentially disturbing their neighbors.
Waste Disposal: Recycling is mandatory and complex. Rubbish must often be placed in official, paid municipal bags, with heavy fines for improper disposal. Littering is prohibited.
Good Samaritan Law: Failing to assist in an emergency (e.g., not calling 117) is illegal.
