Description
After meeting your small-group on the dock, you'll be driven by private van to the wilderness trailhead. Located in a remote location, you will hike on an unpaved, mostly level wilderness trail with no steps. You don’t need special footwear. The peace of the rainforest surroundings is yours while you admire the ancient forest and giant trees of the Tongass National Forest.
You will walk approximately 3 miles with stops for photos while your guide interprets the natural environment. Escape the crowds, lines, noise, and civilization. Your first stop is at a meadow, where you'll identify unusual plants and flowers. You'll then walk to a waterfall, where a viewing platform allows you to participate in the abundant water and wildlife. Afterward, walk about 20 minutes more beside the rushing waters to the second viewing platform, directly above the clear waters. Learn about early Native American traditions. As giant ancient trees (some over 600 years old) surround and tower above you, touch them and imagine their history across the years. Your guide will show you secrets from the forest and lead you to the best viewing spots. Please note: Participants must be between 8 and 80 years old, and be able to walk and stand continuously for 2 hours with occasional breaks. Guests should consider their physical fitness level and medical history when determining whether this tour is appropriate. Guests with pre-existing neck, back, knee and/or shoulder injuries, cardiac conditions, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, other heart or respiratory conditions or any other medical condition should take particular caution when selecting a tour. Guests who have concerns should consult with their personal physician before engaging in any activity that may be strenuous for them.
Itinerary
You will meet on the dock and take a twenty minute van ride out of town to the trailhead. The trail is about three miles round trip and there are several viewing platforms along the way. At spots along the trail your guide will point out the wildlife and plant life surrounding the trail.
