After breakfast, meet your guide in the hotel lobby and proceed for a visit to the Catacombs, Pompey's Pillar, Alex Library & Qait Bay fortress.
Catacombs Located in the Karmouz district of Alexandria, one will find the fascinating Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa. While this ancient necropolis might not be included in all Egypt package tours, and while it might not be regarded as being one of the country's top attractions, it is certainly well worth a visit. In fact, they are nowadays officially one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages. The tombs, when compared to some other similar sites, are actually quite massive, and descend three levels beneath the city above. Historians and archaeologists believe the tombs were carved into the existing bedrock over a period of several years. Records also tend to suggest that the work was funded by one family, even though the site later became more of a common burial place.
Pompey's Pillar : Pompey's Pillar stands tall and proud in the historic city of Alexandria, Egypt. This colossal Roman triumphal column is one of the largest ancient monolithic columns ever constructed, soaring about 28 meters (92 feet) high. Though its name might suggest otherwise, it wasn't directly related to the Roman general Pompey. The pillar was actually erected in honor of the Roman governor Publius Petronius to celebrate his victory over a local revolt around 297 AD.
Crafted from towering red granite, its slender shaft rests on a huge circular base, crowned with an intricately carved Corinthian capital — a masterpiece of ancient engineering and artistry. Visitors marvel at how this single stone was transported and assembled so precisely over 1,700 years ago!
Situated near the ancient Serapeum ruins, Pompey's Pillar is an iconic landmark that whispers tales of imperial glory and Alexandria’s fascinating past. It's a mustsee for anyone seeking a slice of history wrapped in the allure of Egyptian antiquity.
