Packing List — Carry-On + Personal Item Only
Nine days, four cities, three countries, one carry-on. It's completely doable — and honestly, the right move for a trip where we're moving this often. No waiting at baggage carousels, no checking fees, no worrying about a bag going to the wrong city. Here's what to bring and why.
---
Documents & Money
Passport — valid for at least 6 months beyond September 9, 2026
Printed copy of passport (leave another copy with an emergency contact at home)
Travel insurance card and emergency number — keep accessible, not buried
Credit/debit cards — notify your bank before departure; bring at least two
Small amount of GBP cash for London arrival (ATMs at Heathrow are fine)
Note: We visit three currencies — GBP (UK), EUR (Amsterdam + Berlin), CZK (Prague). No need to pre-exchange all three; ATMs along the way are your friend.

Clothing — Built for Layers, Movement, and a Few Elegant Moments
September temperatures across all four cities range from the mid-50s to upper 60s°F. Plan for cool mornings, mild afternoons, and chilly evenings.
Tops (5–6 pieces total, mix and match)
2–3 lightweight long-sleeve tops or blouses (can layer under a blazer)
1–2 short-sleeve tops for warmer afternoons
1 nicer blouse or top for elevated evenings (High Tea, West End shows)
Bottoms (3 pieces)
1–2 comfortable walking pants or dark jeans (versatile for day and evening)
1 pair of comfortable trousers or a simple skirt for dressier occasions
Layers (2–3 pieces)
1 tailored blazer or structured cardigan — pulls daytime looks together for High Tea at The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon and The Devil Wears Prada at the West End
1 lightweight, packable waterproof jacket or trench — rain is possible any day in London or Amsterdam
1 cozy layer (light sweater or merino cardigan) for train journeys and cooler evenings in Berlin and Prague
Sleepwear + Undergarments
Enough for the trip; lightweight fabrics pack smaller
Consider packing 1–2 extras in case of travel delays
One versatile scarf — works as a wrap on the train, a layer in a chilly museum, or a polished accessory at dinner
---
Footwear — Maximum 2–3 Pairs
Space is limited. Every pair needs to earn its spot.
1 pair of comfortable, broken-in walking shoes — cushioned sneaker, supportive flat, or low-heeled boot. Cobblestones in Prague and Amsterdam are not forgiving on new shoes. This is your most important packing decision.
1 pair of versatile shoes that can go from sightseeing to an elegant evening — a low block heel, a dressy flat, or a polished loafer
1 pair of lightweight slip-ons or sandals for hotel downtime (optional, only if space allows)
---
Toiletries & Health
Medications — This Is Priority
All prescription medications in carry-on luggage (never checked)
Bring 3–5 extra days' supply beyond what you need
Written list of medications, dosages, and prescribing physicians
Any OTC regulars: pain reliever, antacid, sleep aid, motion sickness tablets
Toiletries (3-1-1 carry-on rule applies)
Stick to travel-size liquids (3.4 oz / 100ml or less) in a clear quart-size bag
Shampoo/conditioner bars are a great space-saver; all hotels provide basics
Sunscreen (September sun is still real, especially in open plazas and on canal walks)
Blister prevention (Body Glide or blister bandages — trust me on this one)
Hand sanitizer and a small pack of tissues (useful across all four cities)
Any personal skincare essentials in travel sizes
---
Electronics
Universal travel adapter — you'll need a Type G for the UK and Type C/F for the continent. One universal adapter covers all four countries.
Portable power bank — long days of navigation and photos will drain your battery
Earbuds or headphones for flights and long train journeys (Austin → Houston → London is a long day)
Camera if you prefer it over your phone (optional)
Phone plan: Check with your carrier before departure. Confirm international coverage for UK and EU. If not included, set up an add-on now. WhatsApp and iMessage over hotel Wi-Fi work at no cost for group communication.
---
1 carry-on (check your airline's size limits — United typically allows 22" x 14" x 9")
1 personal item (backpack or structured tote that fits under the seat)
Packing cubes — essential for staying organized across four cities and frequent hotel changes
1 crossbody or anti-theft day bag for sightseeing — keeps passport, cards, and phone safe in crowded areas like Buckingham Palace, Anne Frank House, and Old Town Prague
A small tote that folds flat — useful for shopping, a picnic, or a day out
---
Nice-to-Have Extras
Reusable water bottle — refillable; remember that water at restaurants in Europe is typically not free
Small umbrella or packable rain cover — London and Amsterdam in September, enough said
A good book or downloaded shows for the transatlantic flight
Compression socks for the long-haul flight (Austin → Houston → London overnight & home from Prague)
Eye mask and travel pillow for overnight flying comfort
---
What to Leave Behind
Anything you're bringing "just in case" that isn't on this list
More than 2–3 pairs of shoes
Full-size toiletries (hotels provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash)
Heavy coats or bulky layers — your wearable waterproof jacket is enough for September
Checked baggage. We don't need it, and we'll move faster without it.

We are covering London, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Prague in nine days — four cities, three currencies, two train journeys, and one very good time. Pack smart and pack light. Everything else, we'll figure out together.
