Your next stop is Kilmainham Gaol, one of Ireland’s most significant and emotionally powerful historic sites. Now preserved as a museum, the former prison tells the story of Ireland’s long struggle for independence and the people who played a central role in shaping the country’s modern history. Leaders connected to the rebellions of 1798, 1803, 1848, 1867, and 1916 were imprisoned here, and some were executed within its walls.
During the Anglo-Irish War, many members of the Irish Republican movement were also held at Kilmainham Gaol under British guard. As you tour the prison, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the political movements, sacrifices, and personal stories tied to this remarkable place. It is a powerful visit that adds important context to the history you’ll encounter throughout the rest of your journey.
After the tour, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel, where the remainder of the day is yours to relax or continue exploring Dublin at your own pace. Dinner will be on your own.
Please note: Admission to Kilmainham Gaol is subject to availability, as tickets are extremely limited and group requests for 2027 may not be confirmed until later in 2026. If tickets cannot be secured, an alternate sightseeing experience will be provided in its place.
