The world's first registered Polar Class 6 passenger vessel, the Hondius is one of the most structurally-fortified and technologically advanced polar expedition ships in Antarctica. An instrument to the mission of Oceanwide Expedition: to focus on exploration, wildlife, and outdoor activities, she was built in 2019 and equipped with stabilizers for swift, safe, and nimble exploration of Antarctic waters. In addition, the ship carries a powerful fleet of zodiac boats with two separate gangways for efficient disembarkation and an outdoor zodiac boarding area, which doubles as a staging site for special outdoor activities such as kayaking.
With a maximum capacity of 170 passengers, the ship is within the IAATO class of Category 1, allowing for flexible and regular landings to explore Antarctica for all passengers with less jockeying to take turns. The ships interiors are cozy with classically conceived mid-century modern decor while the exterior, small-scale design makes her reactive and nimble to ever-changing weather conditions.
Facilities: The large observation lounge and separate lecture room make up the majority of Deck 5, providing multi-language lectures and presentations on board. You'll also find a library with plenty of information to delve into the world of Antarctica.
Sustainability: Hondius employs LED lighting, steam heat, biodegradable paints and lubricants, flexible power management systems for high fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions.
