Morning schedule (Mountain Daylight Time):
Today is a full-day ride on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, perhaps one of the most beautiful train rides in America. This rugged, narrow-gauge, coal-fired, steam-powered mountain railroad traverses 64 miles of unparalleled scenery, climbing through unspoiled landscapes and passing historic railroad structures dating back to the early 1900s.
Enjoy the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains as the locomotive rolls through tunnels, above deep gorges, and over Cumbres Pass, zig-zagging between the Colorado and New Mexico border. A stop is made for lunch at the remote Osier Dining Hall near the halfway point. Your rail journey ends in Chama, NM, followed by a scenic drive through the south end of the San Juan Mountains to Durango, CO.
