Welcome to Falmouth, Jamaica. Falmouth is a working port town with a rich colonial history. It was built to look like a Georgian-style village, but the real magic of Jamaica often lies a short drive away in the lush jungles and waterfalls.

Between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, Falmouth is located on Jamaica’s north coast. Take a walk through Jamaica’s history and local cuisine, dare to take a ride down the river on a tubing tour, visit the local sites and learn about Bob Marley’s history, and see where he was influenced to make his music on a tour of his local village.

As of 2026, Jamaica remains under a Level 3 Travel Advisory (Reconsider Travel). While the gated port area is very safe, it is highly recommended to stick to organized shore excursions or reputable private drivers when exploring the island.

The Historic Falmouth Cruise Port is a gated, themed shopping and dining district. If you don't want to deal with the hustle of the town, you can easily spend a few hours here.

• Shopping: You’ll find typical high-end jewelry (Diamonds International) and local souvenirs.
• Margaritaville: Features a "swim-up" bar and a pool right in the port. It’s a reliable spot for WiFi and a cheeseburger in paradise.
• The Trolley: A small trolley runs tours through the town directly from the port, which is a great way to see the historic Georgian architecture without walking the busy streets.

Most of these are a 45–60 minute drive from the port.

• Dunn’s River Falls: The "must-do." You’ll form a human chain and climb 600 feet of cascading waterfalls. Pro Tip: Bring water shoes; the rocks are slippery.
• The Blue Hole (Secret Falls): For a more "rugged" feel than Dunn's River. It features turquoise swimming holes, rope swings, and cliff jumping.
• Martha Brae River Rafting: A much calmer experience. A local guide poles you down a quiet river on a 30-foot bamboo raft. It’s incredibly peaceful and only about 15 minutes from the port.

• Blue Waters Beach Club: A popular, private beach club about 10–15 minutes away. It’s usually sold as a ship excursion and includes lunch and an open bar.
• Doctor’s Cave Beach (Montego Bay): About 45 minutes away. It has some of the clearest water in Jamaica but can get very crowded when multiple ships are in.
• Burwood Beach: A smaller, public beach close to the port. It's affordable but lacks the amenities of the private clubs.

Don't leave without trying the local flavors.

• Pepper’s Jerk Center: Located just a few blocks outside the port gates. This is where you get the real deal—wood-smoked jerk chicken and pork served with "festival" (sweet fried dough).
• Juici Patties: Look for these in town or the port. A Jamaican patty (beef, chicken, or soy) is the ultimate local "fast food."
• Blue Mountain Coffee: Grab a bag to take home. It is widely considered some of the best coffee in the world.

• Currency: USD is accepted everywhere in tourist areas. You do not need Jamaican Dollars.
• Transportation: Only use JUTA-certified taxis (look for the sticker on the windshield). Agree on the price before you get in the car.
• The "Hustle": Outside the port gates, vendors can be very persistent. A polite but firm "No, thank you" or "No, respect" works well.
• Safety Tip: Avoid wearing flashy jewelry or carrying large amounts of cash when walking through the town of Falmouth. Stick to well-trafficked tourist areas.
