Step beyond the grand homes and gardens to experience one of Charleston's most meaningful historic sites. During your guided tour of McLeod Plantation Historic Site, you'll explore a place that tells the complete story of the plantation—not only the family who owned it, but also the enslaved men, women, and children whose labor, resilience, and culture shaped its history. Set beneath towering live oaks draped in Spanish moss, this thoughtfully preserved site offers a powerful and honest look at life in the Lowcountry from the 1800s through the Civil Rights era.
As you walk the grounds with your interpreter, you'll visit the plantation house, original slave cabins, cotton gin, dairy, and outbuildings while hearing the remarkable stories of the generations who lived and worked here. Unlike many plantation tours, McLeod places the lives, traditions, and enduring legacy of the Gullah Geechee people at the heart of the experience, creating one of the most authentic and moving historical tours in Charleston. Guided walking tours are offered throughout the day and are included with admission.
