Arrive in Tromsø, often called the “Gateway to the Arctic”, and step into a city that perfectly balances adventure and charm. Located on an island north of the Arctic Circle, Tromsø is more than five times the size of Norway’s capital, Oslo, and holds the distinction of being the world’s northernmost university city.
Historically, Tromsø was the starting point for hunters seeking Arctic foxes, polar bears, and seals, and later became a base for explorers embarking on daring Arctic expeditions. Today, the city’s heritage is celebrated in the Polar Museum, where fascinating exhibits tell stories of these brave pioneers.
Stroll through the city and admire the juxtaposition of charming wooden buildings alongside striking contemporary architecture, including the Arctic Cathedral, whose glacier-like silhouette and expansive stained-glass window are truly awe-inspiring.
