After a hearty breakfast, we leave Italy for the quiet rural roads of Slovenia, passing through the world-renowned Goriska Brda wine region. The range of varietals produced here includes Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, and the controversially-named Friulano. Before hitting the trail, there's a chance to visit the Kobarid WWI museum, whose stories may be familiar to literary fans thanks to Ernest Hemingway's semi-autobiographical novel, A Farewell to Arms. Then trade history for the here and now as you follow a well-maintained trail into the foothills of the Alps. Along the way, you can even cool off with a dip in the emerald green Soca River! Enjoy lunch trailside with a view of the jagged peaks above. A historic train ride takes us further into Slovenia and to the doorstep of Triglav National Park. After a short shuttle from the train station, we arrive at Hotel Bohinj, our home for the next two nights. This welcoming oasis features modern, environmentally friendly design and is flush with natural light. Pamper yourself this afternoon with a visit to our hotel's Turkish and Finnish saunas and the outdoor whirlpool, or consider a relaxing spa treatment. Tonight, dinner features regional specialties at the hotel dinner at a local restaurant that serves elegant fare in a casual, cozy setting.
