The heart of Venice is Saint Mark’s Square. Entering by the two monumental columns in front of the lagoon (the “water square”), near the Bridge of Sighs, you will admire the history of the Republic of Venice: the Doge’s Palace (seat of government and center of political and administrative life), the Basilica with its golden mosaics and precious marbles, the Procuratie with historic cafés, the Clock Tower, and the Bell Tower.
The walk then leads to the Grand Canal and the famous Rialto Bridge through beautiful and hidden corners, including the Theater La Fenice, the Bovolo Staircase, and the Mercerie street with its luxurious boutiques, as well as the characteristic Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
The tour continues with a visit to St. Mark's Cathedral, an ancient jewel case of beautiful treasures and the most important and loved church in Venice, covered inside by thousands of square feet of shiny mosaics. The oriental aspect of the architecture testifies to the deep ties between Venice and Byzantium.
At the end of the guided tour, enjoy 2 hours of free time before boarding the private boat to return to the hotel.
