Depart from your Derry hotel and travel to the village of Belleek for a visit to the world‑famous Belleek Pottery.
Open from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturdays (hours subject to change in 2027), Belleek Pottery is one of Ireland’s oldest and most celebrated craft institutions. Founded in 1857 during the Victorian era, the pottery was established to bring employment to this rural community along the River Erne. Over time, it became internationally renowned for its delicate Parian china, an ivory‑toned, translucent porcelain prized by collectors around the world.
The pottery is housed in an impressive Victorian building that reflects the craftsmanship and ambition of its early years. Inside, you’ll find a museum, tearoom, video theatre, and showroom showcasing both historic pieces and contemporary designs. The guided tour takes you through each stage of production, offering a rare opportunity to meet the artisans who continue Belleek’s 160‑year tradition of handcrafting fine ceramics. (Please note: no production takes place on Sundays.)
As you explore the museum, you’ll follow the story of Belleek from its early earthenware experiments to its mastery of Parian china, a material once considered the height of luxury in Victorian homes. You’ll also learn how local legends, Celtic motifs, and Irish flora have inspired many of Belleek’s most iconic designs, making each piece a blend of artistry, heritage, and cultural storytelling.
After your visit, continue your journey to Lough Rynn Castle, where you will stay for one night and enjoy a truly authentic castle experience, complete with historic charm, lakeside scenery, and the timeless elegance of one of Ireland’s most enchanting estates.
