Today is all about natural wonders, ancient stories, and surprising tastes as we journey around Iceland’s famed Golden Circle.
Thingvellir National Park
Our first stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s as historically significant as it is geologically fascinating. It was here that Iceland’s first parliament, Althingi, was founded in 930 AD — making it one of the oldest democratic assemblies in the world.
You’ll also witness the dramatic Almannagjá Rift, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly pulling apart. Walk through the actual divide between continents, take in views of Lake Thingvallavatn, and marvel at the cascading Öxarárfoss Waterfall.
Geobakery Visit
Next, we’ll enjoy a truly unique local treat — geothermal-baked rye bread, cooked underground for 24 hours using the natural heat of the Earth. It’s a simple yet unforgettable taste of Iceland’s deep connection to its landscape.
Lunch at Friðheimar Tomato Greenhouse
Lunch is a warm and cozy affair inside the Friðheimar Greenhouse, where a local family cultivates vibrant tomato crops year-round using geothermal energy. You’ll learn about their sustainable growing techniques and enjoy a fresh, flavorful meal featuring their famous tomato soup, fresh bread, and even tomato cheesecake for dessert.
Geysir Geothermal Area & Gullfoss Waterfall
After lunch we’ll visit the Geysir geothermal field, home to the energetic Strokkur geyser, which erupts every few minutes.
We’ll end the day’s sightseeing at the thundering Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most beloved natural wonders. Fed by the glacial waters of Langjökull, this two-tiered waterfall tumbles dramatically into a deep canyon and is sure to leave you in awe.
