Lines? Yes, we have them sometimes. But luckily, they move very quickly, as you usually have your fries in hand within 10 minutes. To ensure everything runs smoothly, there are up to four crowd managers outside during the weekends. They guide the line, keep the sidewalk accessible for pedestrians and the disabled, and ask customers not to eat directly in front of our neighbors' stores or houses, but to find a nice spot along the canals, for example. With these measures, we try to regulate the crowds as best as we can and minimize any inconvenience to the surrounding area as much as we can.
Litter is a well-known problem in the city. We collaborate with the Stichting Het Koffiehuis, which provides day activities for the homeless and undocumented in exchange for coffee, lunch, clean clothing, and shelter. From scattered packaging to small bulky waste – they help keep the neighborhood clean 365 days a year, two hours a day. Additionally, our own employees make a large round every evening to clean up litter. We wish that a fries container would never end up on the street, but we continue to invest in solutions for a cleaner city. Therefore, we not only maintain the mandatory 25 meters, but clean an area of hundreds of meters.
Our company naturally produces waste, but not all the waste in the area comes from us. Other catering establishments and entrepreneurs also contribute to this. In addition, public trash cans are often used by residents to dispose of household waste, even though they are not intended for that purpose. This causes the bins to fill up quickly.
To minimize this as much as possible, we – in addition to the municipal cleaning service – empty the trash bins in the immediate vicinity of our store three times a day, which amounts to 27 extra emptyings per week. This helps prevent overflowing bins and accumulating waste. With these extra efforts, we try to keep the neighborhood as clean as possible and minimize our impact on the environment.
