Three artisan days run through this camp, and this is the first. Clay, cork and cloth, taught by the people who work in them for a living.
During this first artisan experience, families will be divided into three small groups, allowing for a more personal and interactive connection with each local artisan. Over the course of the two weeks, each group will rotate through three different craft experiences, spending approximately one hour discovering the story and techniques behind each tradition, followed by two hours of hands-on workshop time.
Guided by local masters, families will explore the materials, skills and stories behind some of the most authentic crafts of the Alentejo, such as pottery, cork craftsmanship and traditional textiles. Each session is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and participation, allowing guests to not only learn about these traditions but to experience them directly.
Through working with their hands, families will discover the patience, imagination, and connection to nature that define these centuries-old crafts. Children and adults alike will have the opportunity to create, experiment, and share moments together with the artisans who keep these traditions alive.
Today is about understanding the crafts, not producing anything. Where each one comes from, why it is done the way it is done, what the material will and will not let you do, and what the tools in front of you are actually for.
