OPTIONAL EXCURSION to Northern Lagoon: $530 per person (min. 7 pax, max. 10 pax)
Includes: full-day guided tour with vaporetto transport and equipment (bicycle and kayak) rental, island and artisan visits, customary tip for the guide.
Extras (own expense): lunch, tower and church/mosaic entrance fees (currently €5 each), any additional extras.
This excursion offers an opportunity to get to know the authentic Venice beyond the main island and monuments. Your tour begins by meeting your guide at the hotel and walking together through some of Venice’s quieter neighborhoods on your way to board a vaporetto to Venice’s northern lagoon. Along the way you’ll talk about local food production, island life, environmental challenges, the relationship between the inhabited islands and the surrounding ecosystem, as well as fishing, traditional crafts, changes brought by tourism, and what it means to live on one of Venice’s outer islands today.
Activities and stops include an easy and flat morning bicycle ride on Sant’Erasmo island with its farms, vineyards, and canals; a relaxed kayak tour to Torcello, the origins of Venetian settlement; a visit to Burano with its colorful houses and traditional crafts; and finally a stop in Murano to visit with artisans and learn about its centuries-old glass blowing tradition. The exact program can be tailored to the group’s wishes and will take the weather and the group’s energy levels into account.
