After breakfast at Rambagh Palace, we'll uncover Jaipur’s regal treasures.
Today we drive to the ancient capital of Amer (also known as Amber) to see the fabulous Amer Fort, situated on a ridge just outside Jaipur city (uphill and downhill by Jeep). Maharaja Mansingh, the most successful General of Mughal Emperor Akbar, began the construction of the majestic Amber Fort in the 17th century.
Before the City Palace was built in Jaipur, Amer served as the seat of power. The fort is surrounded by fortified battlements and overlooks the tranquil Moat Lake. Ruins and remains are scattered across the Aravalli hills, and sprawling crenellated walls encircle the area. To reach the maingate, visitors can ascend the fort in jeeps. Inside, the chambers and hallways of the palace are renowned for their exquisite design and decoration. The town surrounding the Amber Fort is also home to beautiful small temples and the step well known as Panna Meena. Originally occupied by the Meena tribe, Amer was once a flourishing settlement.
Later we visit the City Palace Museum, which boasts a collection of Rajasthani costumes, armory of Mughal andRajput swords of varying shapes and sizes with intricately carved handles. Additionally, the museum houses a plethora of antiques and artifacts belonging to the ruling family, including a vast array of weaponry. Furthermore, the art gallery features an impressive collection of miniature paintings, carpets, royal paraphernalia, and rare astronomical works in Arabic, Persian, Latin, and Sanskrit.
We proceed onward to the Jantar Mantar Observatory, a stone astrological and astronomical Observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singhin the 18th century. After that we'll visit Hawa Mahal, known as “the palace of wind”, a red and pink sandstone building on the other edge of City Palace, which is built by the Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. Some shopping is in store this afternoon, right after we pay a visit to the most photographed monument in Jaipur, the colorful Patrika Gate.
