Kauai is different. From the moment the island comes into view — impossibly green cliffs rising straight out of the ocean — you'll understand why it's called the Garden Isle. This is Hawaii at its most dramatic and most unspoiled, and with two days in port you have the time to actually experience it.
Nawiliwili Harbor sits on the southeastern shore, just minutes from the town of Lihue and within easy reach of the island's most iconic landscapes.
The Na Pali Coast There is no road to Na Pali. The only ways to see it are by air, by sea, or on foot — and every one of them is worth it. Towering emerald cliffs, hidden sea caves, and cascading waterfalls that drop straight into the Pacific. If there's one excursion on this entire itinerary worth prioritizing, this is it.
Waimea Canyon Mark Twain called it the Grand Canyon of the Pacific — and the comparison holds. Drive up into the island's interior and the landscape opens into a 3,600-foot deep canyon of red and green rock unlike anything else in Hawaii. The lookout points alone are worth the drive. Combine it with a stop at Kokee State Park for forest trails and sweeping valley views.
Closer to the Harbor
Good to Know Kauai is the wettest of the main Hawaiian Islands — but that's what keeps it so breathtakingly green. The north shore sees the most rainfall while the south shore stays sunnier. Pack a light layer and don't let a passing shower slow you down — they rarely last long and the light afterward is stunning.
With two days here, there's no need to rush. Save something for the second morning and let the island breathe.
