Seattle is the kind of city that makes a compelling case for extending your trip by a day or two on either end. The Pike Place Market - the real one, not the tourist approximation - is one of the great urban markets in the country. The food scene is exceptional (fresh seafood, serious coffee culture, a restaurant scene that punches well above the city's size). And the setting, between Puget Sound and the Cascades, gives it a natural beauty that most major American cities can only envy.
What we'd suggest: Arrive a day early, stay a day late. Pike Place Market in the morning, the waterfront in the afternoon, dinner in Capitol Hill or Ballard. We'll make the hotel recommendations when the time comes.
