Virgin Gorda is one of the most distinctive islands in the Caribbean, known less for a bustling town center and more for its extraordinary natural landscape. The southern end of the island is anchored by The Baths, a series of enormous granite boulders that form sea grottoes and tidal pools unlike anything else in the region. The island has a quiet, upscale character, with most visitors coming specifically for the beaches and water.
Port and City Relationship
The ship will tender into Virgin Gorda, typically arriving near the Valley, the island's main settlement. Tender times can vary, so plan your morning accordingly and check with the ship for the schedule. The Baths are the main draw and are a short taxi ride from the tender dock.
What to See, Do and Eat Nearby
The Baths National Park is the must-do. Entry is $5 USD per person, and the walk through the boulders to the beach on the other side is one of the most memorable short hikes in the Caribbean. Arrive early before the crowds build. Spring Bay Beach, just north of The Baths, is quieter and equally beautiful. The Bath and Turtle in Spanish Town is a casual waterfront spot for lunch and cold drinks. Mad Dog Bar near The Baths serves a pina colada that has developed something of a cult following. For water activities, kayaks and snorkel gear can be rented near the tender dock for around $20 to $30 USD.
Getting Around
Taxis meet the tenders and are the standard way to get around the island. A shared taxi to The Baths runs about $7 to $10 USD per person each way. Private taxis are available for around $25 to $30 USD for a full island tour. There is no public bus system, so plan on taxis or a pre-arranged rental.
