Today we journey farther north, crossing into Finnish Lapland and officially stepping over the Arctic Circle — a milestone few travelers ever reach. Along the way, we’ll pause in Tornio to visit Finland’s oldest wooden church, standing proudly since the 1600s and still in use today.
From there, the road takes us to Kukkolankoski, where the river’s rapids have sustained fishing traditions for centuries. Here, you’ll see the wooden installations that line the riverbanks and walk to a rustic kota (wooden hut). Inside, whitefish is grilled over an open fire in the time-honored Kukkola style. We’ll gather around the flames, listen to local stories, and savor the smoky, melt-in-your-mouth flavors of fish cooked the way it’s been done for generations.
Later, we continue to Rovaniemi — perched right on the Arctic Circle and known around the world as the official hometown of Santa Claus. Tonight, you’ll feel the wonder of being in a place where folklore, tradition, and wilderness all come together.
