This morning begins with a short sightseeing tour of Harstad, a coastal town shaped by fishing, oil, and military history. Just beyond the harbor lies Trondenes Church, a striking 13th-century stone landmark, along with its historical center that brings Norway’s medieval past to life.
From there, a scenic drive carries us across Hinnøya Island, where rugged peaks rise over deep fjords. We’ll board a ferry for the crossing — and because Norwegians know how to do comfort right, we’ll sip hot chocolate and enjoy fresh waffles and lefse while surrounded by jaw-dropping views.
Once back on land, we’ll continue by bus to rejoin our ship at Sortland. The sailing continues this afternoon with a longer docking in Stokmarknes, the birthplace of the Coastal Express in the late 19th century — a fitting stop as we travel the same legendary route that began here more than 130 years ago.
