After breakfast at the hotel, prepare to step through the stones. Today is a full-day immersion into the world of Outlander, as our private coach whisks us away from Edinburgh and into the heart of the Scottish landscapes that brought the story to life. Your guide will meet you in the lobby, and from there, the adventure begins.
Our first stop is the perfectly preserved 16th-century seaside village of Culross, whose charming streets and historic town square served as the fictional village of Cranesmuir. You'll feel like you've stepped back in time, walking the same cobblestones as Geillis Duncan and Claire Beauchamp.
Next, we journey deeper into MacKenzie territory, passing the iconic Stirling Castle and the towering Wallace Monument—symbols of Scotland's fierce history—en route to the magnificent Doune Castle. You'll know it the moment you see it: the proud, imposing fortress that is Castle Leoch, the seat of Clan MacKenzie. We'll go inside, exploring the Great Hall, the kitchens, and the very courtyards where Jamie and Claire's story began.
From there, the plot darkens as we visit the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Linlithgow Palace, the stand-in for the formidable Wentworth Prison. Its dramatic architecture and storied past make for an unforgettable stop. We'll break for a two-course lunch at a local restaurant, including a drink, to refuel and discuss the morning's adventures.
Our afternoon continues with a short drive to the imposing Blackness Castle, a 15th-century fortress jutting out into the Firth of Forth. Its grim, powerful walls served as the headquarters of Black Jack Randall at Fort William. You can walk the ramparts, explore the castle's history, and soak in the dramatic coastal views (and maybe keep an eye out for Redcoats).
Our final stop is a moment of color and light in the picturesque village of Queensferry, with its iconic views of the Forth Bridge, before we head back to Edinburgh. The remainder of the evening is yours to enjoy on your own—whether that means finding a cozy pub for dinner, revisiting a favorite spot, or simply relaxing at the hotel before our next day's adventure.
