Overview
After these days inland, you finally reach the sea and the coastline.
Today you will visit the Saline of Margherita di Savoia, the largest salt pans in Italy and Europe, as well as among the largest in the world. Stretching for about 20 km along the Adriatic coast and covering nearly 4,500 hectares, they are famous for their pink-hued basins, created by microorganisms and beta-carotene. The salt pans also form an important natural reserve, home to pink flamingos and many species of waterbirds.
