A full day in Vienna and the city does not disappoint. Your included Imperial Vienna tour covers the Ringstrasse, Hofburg, and the grand boulevards. The Schönbrunn Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful in all of Europe — go in the afternoon so you catch it in daylight and then again after dark when the lights come on. The Rathaus Market by night is festive, busy, and perfect for a mug of glühwein. If you'd rather explore independently, the Naschmarkt is a short walk from the center and a great place to graze through Austrian and international food stalls.

Krems, Dürnstein, Melk & Spitz (Dec 9)
This is the Wachau Valley day and it's one of the most scenic stretches of the entire cruise. Dürnstein's blue church tower above the river is the postcard shot of the journey. The fortress hike is steep but worth it for the views. Melk Abbey, perched high above the Danube, is genuinely impressive — the baroque library alone makes the visit. The Exclusive Wine Experience in the evening is a highlight; this region produces some of Austria's finest Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, and you'll be tasting them right where they're grown.

Linz (Dec 10)
Linz is Austria's most underrated city. It's been a UNESCO City of Media Arts since 2014, and the Ars Electronica Center on the riverbank is unlike any museum you've been to. If you'd rather stretch your legs for a full day, both the Salzburg and Český Krumlov excursions are outstanding — Český Krumlov in particular feels like stepping into a fairy tale, a medieval town virtually unchanged for centuries. The distillery tour in the evening is a nice wind-down if you skipped the full-day options.

Passau & Vilshofen (Dec 11)
Passau sits at the confluence of three rivers — the Danube, Inn, and Ilz — and the view from the Veste Oberhaus fortress looking down over the city is one of the best in Germany. The Christmas Markets here are less crowded than Vienna or Budapest and feel genuinely local. The African-themed dinner onboard that evening is one of the Soulful Experience signature events — dress up and enjoy it. The Exclusive Oktoberfest celebration in Vilshofen is a fun, festive send-off to the cruise.

Munich is a city that earns its reputation. Your included heritage walking tour is a great orientation, and the Bavarian Beer Hall experience is exactly what you'd hope for — loud, warm, and full of pretzels the size of your head. Beyond the tour, the Viktualienmarkt in the center of the city is the best daily market in Germany for charcuterie, cheese, and local produce. The Marienplatz Christmas Market is right in the heart of the city and easy to dip in and out of between other stops. If you have free time, the Deutsches Museum is the world's largest science and technology museum and genuinely fascinating for a few hours.

December in Central Europe is cold, grey, and magical. Expect temperatures between 25-40°F (-4 to 4°C) throughout the cruise, with the possibility of snow — especially in the Wachau Valley and Munich. Days are short; sunset is around 4pm. This is not the trip to pack light. You'll want real winter layers, a proper coat, and waterproof footwear for cobblestone streets that can get icy. The Christmas Markets are entirely outdoors, so dress for standing around in the cold with a warm drink in hand.
