Travel protection is strongly recommended for this trip — and we'd be doing you a disservice if we didn't say so clearly.
A 10-day international river cruise in December involves transatlantic flights, multiple countries, winter weather that can cause delays, and a significant investment. The right travel protection plan covers you if something goes wrong before you leave or while you're on the road.
What to Look For in a Plan
- Trip cancellation and interruption coverage — protects your investment if you need to cancel or cut the trip short due to illness, a family emergency, or other covered reasons
- Medical coverage abroad — your domestic health insurance often provides little to no coverage outside the US
- Medical evacuation — river cruise ships are not hospitals; if something serious happens, evacuation coverage is essential
- Baggage loss and delay coverage — particularly relevant for winter travel when delays are more common
- "Cancel for Any Reason" (CFAR) upgrade — available on some plans, gives you flexibility to cancel for reasons not otherwise covered
Timing Matters
