San Juan is Puerto Rico’s capital and makes a strong impression even before you step ashore. Sailing into the harbour, you pass El Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal, then walk straight into old streets lined with pastel Spanish colonial buildings. Once in town, you can divide your day between the historic quarter and one of the nearby beaches, or treat it as a chance to wander, find a café, and remember that this is where the piña colada was born.
