Explore Puerto Rico's El Yunque Rain Forest with a nature hike and scenic drive. The adventure begins at El Portal Visitor Center, where a talk on the forest's ecosystem and native plants sets the stage.
Next, set out on an invigorating one-hour hike through the lush trails of through the rainforest. As you journey deeper into this tropical paradise, discover the vibrant flora and fauna that make this rainforest so unique.
Afterward, enjoy some relaxation during the drive to Yakahu Tower. Four types of forest can be seen from the 69-foot tower: Colorado, Tabonuco with its irregular white-leaved Yagrumos, Palm on the steep slopes, and Cloud Forest on the ridges. On a clear day, the coastline and the Virgin Islands over 10 miles away are visible.
Please note:
This experience is not wheelchair accessible. Guests are advised to wear flat, comfortable, closed-toe shoes—sandals and flip-flops are not permitted. Time spent at the forest is approximately 3.5 hours. Rain gear is recommended in case of inclement weather. Please note that there are 90 steps to reach the top of the tower.
